ROAD TO THE MET
Ozwald Boateng’s journey to the 2025 Met Gala is more than a moment—it’s a return to a conversation he helped start decades ago. As one of the true forefathers of contemporary tailoring in the modern era, his work has consistently challenged and redefined the boundaries of menswear. His finely tailored pieces give men the confidence to express their authentic identity.
The Met’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, reflects ideas Boateng has long brought to life honouring heritage, precision, and the power of personal expression. His 2019 show at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, entitled AI (Authentic Identity), marked a bold statement of cultural pride. It fused African aesthetics, Savile Row craftsmanship, and the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance.
That same vision now finds a global stage at the Met Gala, where Boateng will not only be in attendance but will also be dressing and fitting guests, bringing full circle a legacy built on enhancing the essence and spirit of the wearer.
